The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is host to the South African National Bioinformatics Institute (SANBI). Over the past ten years, SANBI has developed a reputation for genomics research, both nationally and internationally. In South Africa, SANBI is recognised for its contribution to Bioinformatics training and research as an MRC unit for Bioinformatics capacity development, and currently the only DST/NRF Research Chair in Bioinformatics. Internationally, SANBI’s reputation has been cemented through ongoing collaborations such as the World Health Organisation Tropical Disease Research Programme, EU framework projects and NIH-funded mammalian transcriptome initiatives.
UWC now wishes to appoint an internationally recognised Computational Biologist as Director of SANBI at the level of Full Professor. The successful candidate will provide direction for the strategic growth of SANBI and carry out cutting-edge Bioinformatics research. As a leading Computational Biologist in South Africa, the candidate will contribute towards genomics capacity building, nationally and on the African continent.
Appointment requires a PhD in Bioinformatics or a related mathematical field, coupled with a track record in securing external research funding. Read the official advert here.
