Research Interests

My research interests are in a range of different areas within computational molecular evolution including the development and application of methods of inferring evolutionary adaptation from coding and non-coding molecular sequences, with application to viruses and other systems. Impact of immune surveillance on HIV sequence evolution, viral escape from cytotoxic immune responses and implications for vaccine design. Investigation and quantification of allele-specific mRNA splicing and allelic differences in gene expression in mammals. Development of probabalistic models for gene expression data to infer allelic differences in gene expression caused by imprinting and loss of heterozygosity in cancer. Evolution following gene duplication including the impact of gene duplication on evolutionary rates.
