Joint Bioinformatics Position at SIB/ISREC

The Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) and the Swiss Institute
of Experimental Cancer research (ISREC) have a joint position for a
bioinformatician open for January 1st 2001. The successful applicant
is expected to help set up a computational infrastructure for gene
expression data analysis at the Epalinges branch of the SIB and to
collaborate with experimentalists at ISREC and other biomedical
research centers in the Lausanne area on various microarray
projects. In addition she/he may participate in teaching
activities and ongoing bioinformatics research projects of the SIB.

We are looking for a bioinformatician with basic programming experience
in a UNIX environment (preferably C and Perl), expertise in exploratory
statistical analysis, basic knowledge in genomics and expression profiling
technology, and interdisciplinary communication skills. Some experience
in data analysis in a PC/Windows environment is also desirable.

We are offering an excellent bioinformatics infrastructure and research
environment. The computing resources include a GeneMatcher for
hardware-accelerated sequence similarity search, a powerful blast
server hosted by the Swiss Supercomputing Center, a large collection
of regulatorly updated molecular biology databases, and many
general-purpose and specialised software tools. The Epalinges branch
of the SIB hosts a team of about 15 bioinformaticians with experience
in diverse fields and ongoing research projects in protein and
DNA sequence analysis, database development, SNP detection, and
biological system modeling. For more information, please consult
our web pages at http://www.isrec.isb-sib.ch, http://www.isrec.ch.

We encourage the candidates to send applications as soon as possible
to the address given below. Salary and rank will be commensurate with
qualifications. The application should include a cover letter,
curriculum vitae including research interests and plans, as well as
the names and email addresses of at least three references.

Applications and further inquiries should be sent to:
