eVOKE Installation Instructions
The web based evoke query interface requires the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (Version 6) as well as a change to the Java policies while the interface is still in testing mode. Please follow these guidelines:
- Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment from this location for your operating system: http://evoke.sanbi.ac.za/download
In the following the root folder for this installation is going to be called $JAVA_HOME. (default for Windows is: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0). The evoke applet needs read and write access to the local harddrive for import and export functionality. Therefore a local security policy needs to be created.
- Download the prepared policy file from above download location and save it to the local harddisc.
- Open the file $JAVA_HOME/lib/security/java.security.
- Look for the default security policy entries (e.g., “policy.url.1=file:${java.home}/lib/security/java.policy”).
- Add an additional entry underneath for the security policy just downloaded, e.g., “policy.url.3=file:/C:/evoke.policy”
- Be careful to stick with this syntax for Windows systems. Avoid blanks in the path to the policy.
- Save the file.
- Restart your browser.
- Make sure Java is enabled in your browser.
The eVoke interface should now be loading when navigating to http://evoke.sanbi.ac.za
