• For logistical purposes, all staff and students who will be attending the Research Open Day (ROD), whether or not you will be presenting a paper or poster, MUST register using the on-line form.
    • Admission to the morning coffee/tea and lunch breaks will be restricted to registered participants only.
    • ONLY registered participants will have their presentations evaluated.
  • All applications for Oral presentations MUST be endorsed by the Postgraduate Representative of the respective department i.e. you only submit your abstract for oral presentation IF it has been approved by your department or institute. Please Note: Submission of an oral abstract or poster does NOT imply registration for ROD. Registration is a SEPARATE process.
  • The Poster Session will run concurrently with the Oral presentations and all poster presenters are required to be present at their posters.
    • Posters will be evaluated by the judges from the morning of the 22nd October 2012  and the winners will be announced at the end of the day.
    • The Poster Session is an opportunity to either exhibit new posters or to re-exhibit posters made during the course of the year for other conferences.
  • The closing date for final registrations and submission of abstracts (both oral and poster) is 25 September 2015. This time is non-negotiable as the programme needs to be sent away for printing.  For abstract submissions, please use the abstract submission form.

Oral Presentations

  • The event is opened to Honors, Masters and Doctoral students; preference will be given to students who have presented their work at international or national conferences.
  • Oral presenters MUST confirm with their Departmental Postgraduate Representatives that they have been chosen to represent their department in the respective categories.
  • Title slides for all oral presentations MUST use the standardized University branded slides.  Download the following templates (Temple, Protea).
  • Total time allocated to each (Hons, MSc, PhD) speaker
    • 10 minutes: (presentation time = 8 minutes; 2 minutes for questions)
  • Presentations on disk/flash must be submitted to the chairperson of the PG open day by no later than TO BE ANNOUNCED.
  • Late submissions will not be accommodated without prior arrangement!
  • Please DO NOT come along on the day of the open day with your presentation on your laptop/PC unless by prior arrangement with the chairperson of the PG open day committee.

Poster Presentations

  • Submit an electronic copy of your poster to Mario Jonas ( before 12 midnight on the DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED.
  • Poster dimensions must not exceed portrait A1 size (84.1 cm x 59.4 cm : Height x Width).
  • Posters must be mounted in place at the New Science building auditorium between 14H30 – 16H30 on Wednesday, 21 October 2015.
