January 1996-present                    Established Africas first Bioinformatics Institute: South African National Bioinformatics Institute. University of Western Cape.  Director. Establishment of Africa's first institute devoted to genomics and bioinformatics. Development of research, education, training, database and software development and biotechnology locally and internationally.

January 1996- present                   Established Africas first European Molecular Biology Network Node. SANBI. Director of South African Node. Responsible for the training, development and deployment of genome bioinformatics to researchers in Southern  Africa.

November 2001-present                Established Africas first World Health Organisation African Regional Training Centre for Bioinformatics. Director. Responsible for the development of bioinformatics capacity development in tropical disease genomics and bioinformatics in Africa.

August 2001 – present                  Won the first committed MRC Unit to health bioinformatics in Africa

August 2002 – present                  Established Africas first National Bioinformatics Network.  Lead founder and developer of the  National Bioinformatics Network of centres in South Africa.

June 2002 – present                     Established Africas first large scale bioinformatics for HIV programme:Centre for the AIDS programme of research in South Africa. Director of Bioinformatics and executive board member
