A little bit about us

  • Who We Are

The South African National Bioinformatics Institute (SANBI) strives to generate and publish high quality biomedical research and train competent researchers. We aim to engage in many external and internal collaborations to improve the space of bioinformatics nationally and beyond.

  • The Vision

To become a centre of global, African and South African excellence, achieving the highest levels in biomedical research and education.

  • The Mission

SANBI aims to conduct cutting edge bioinformatics and computational biology research relevant to South African, African and global populations. The development of human resources in bioinformatics and computational biology is critically important.

  • The Goals

The generation of quality, relevant biomedical research. The training and graduating of competent researchers. Adding of value to the academic program of the University of the Western Cape. Enhancing other research fields through collaborative projects. Establishing sources of renewable funding to pursue the mission of the institute.
