FungalBase is an initiative of the South African National Bioinformatics Institute. The aim of this project is to provide genomic and annotation data of plant pathogenic fungi. The current focus is a hemi-biotrophic fungus venturia inaequalis, the causal agent of apple scab on Apple (malus x domestica borkh). Apple scab is one of the most destructive diseases of apple orchards. Scab is a serious problem in all apple-producing regions of the world and requires a series of 12 to 15 fungicide sprays per year in commercial orchards. This information is displayed through the use of Ensembl core perl codes, together with a few selected fungal genomes from Ensembl genome browser.

The current release provide the genonomic data of the following listed organisms and can also be accessed programmatically via the Ensembl perl API.

  • Venturia inaequalis
  • Neurospora crassa
  • Fusarium oxysporum
  • Aspergillus flavus
  • Aspergillus clavatus
